Telemetry: Cedarville’s Coffee Comparison

It’s been one of those weeks again. Hectic. Stressful. Stretching. One where you really have to trust that where you are right now fits into God’s plan and purpose for your life.

Maybe that sounds dramatic. But there’s some truth behind the emotions of my week. Regardless, I found time to go to Telemetry Coffee Roasters, take a break from the madness, and force myself to reflect.

Right now, starting this post, I don’t know which local Cedarville coffee shop I like more—Beans-n-Cream or Telemetry. But by the end I will make a decision, so keep reading!

Atmosphere

When I think of a typical millennial coffee shop, I picture Telemetry. As Luke says, it’s very “collegesque” (heavily student occupied with a chill vibe). Singer-song writer music enhances the soft ambiance.

As far as décor goes, Telemetry prominently displays exposed brick walls and Edison bulb lighting (like I said, stereotypical coffee shop). The hard wood floors add texture and give a combination of wannabe rustic and modern aesthetic.

Four areas in Telemetry all match the trendy, coffee shop vibes, but each has its own unique twist.

  • Main room is the liveliest area of the shop with a constant hustle and bustle that is almost surprising for such a small town. Rearranged seating and added tables help accommodated the business.

  • The second study room has a darker, moody atmosphere with a constellation accent wall and lower volume levels.

  • Quaint outdoor seating overlooks the small ravine, giving it a picture-perfect small-town feel.

  • Downstairs is odd. It’s dark and drafty—I’m really not sure why it is the way it is.

In some ways Telemetry feels old—despite the multiple changes in ownership over the past few years. It’s not old in a historical way like Beans, but in an authentic, inviting style.

Drinks & Prices

Telemetry makes their own roasts right in the shop, but I’ve heard very mixed reviews on the actual quality of the drinks: not terrible, but not especially great either. Also, sometimes the iced coffee is too watery.

On a positive note, Telemetry has good mochas, both hot and iced (the barista told Luke and I we were cute for getting matching drinks). Mochas are great because they have just enough coffee to give you an energy boost and enough chocolate to be comforting.

Telemetry also has milk shake versions of their coffee drinks that I’ve been told are very good and a unique highlight of the coffee shop.

So, what makes Telemetry stand out?

Pros: very friendly, distinct atmosphere with bonus outside space, great coffee Cons: compact and can be cramped, exceptionally busy (especially on weekends), more distracting

My professional, or just personal, opinion on Beans-n-Cream vs Telemetry might be a little bit of a cop out because my gut response is that it depends on your mood. BUT because I said I would choose, I pick Telemetry. Despite the competition for limited space, I love the atmosphere and definite coffee shop feel more than Beans.
